Software Defined Data Center Taking Over – AT & T to Virtualize 75% of it’s Network.

There is a lot of hype surrounding Hadoop.  But, the Software-Defined trend seems to be on solid ground.  WSJ is reporting that AT & T is looking to virtualize 75% of it’s network using Software-Defined Networking.  They have dramatically reduced the number of vendors to ten, who will help them implement their vision.  Open source seems to be a big winner of this trend with Open Stack for cloud computing and Open Daylight for Linux-based Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV).

Briefly coming back to the hype surrounding Hadoop.  Hortonworks went public this week at a 50% discount to the pre-IPO valuations.  They reported $44 million in revenue and over $100 million in losses.
