There is a lot of hype surrounding Hadoop. But, the Software-Defined trend seems to be on solid ground. WSJ is reporting that AT & T is looking to virtualize 75% of it’s network using Software-Defined Networking. They have dramatically reduced the number of vendors to ten, who will help them implement their vision. Open source seems to be a big winner of this trend with Open Stack for cloud computing and Open Daylight for Linux-based Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV).
Briefly coming back to the hype surrounding Hadoop. Hortonworks went public this week at a 50% discount to the pre-IPO valuations. They reported $44 million in revenue and over $100 million in losses.
